A Not-So-Swiss Cheese Fondue Recipe

Swiss fondue is divine, that we all know! But, maybe once in a while you want to serve an alternative cheese fondue, here is a recipe that you can make to serve in your Cuisinart CFO 3SS Electric Fondue Maker.

Because you have to make a white sauce to melt the cheese in you will have to make it on the stove and transfer it to your Cuisinart CFO 3SS Electric Fondue Maker.

Ingredients for your not-so-Swiss cheese fondue recipe:
  • 1/4 Pound butter
  • 3 Tablespoons grated cheddar or any strong cheese
  • 1 Tablespoon flour
  • 2 Egg yolks well beaten
  • 2/3 Cup milk
  • 1/3 Cup water
  • 3 Tablespoons gruyere cheese
  • Pinch of nutmeg
Method:
  1. Melt the butter
  2. Stir the flour into the butter and mix until smooth
  3. Add milk and water and stir until smooth and cooked
  4. Add a little of the mixture to your beaten egg yolks
  5. Return to the pot with your cheese sauce
  6. Pour into your Cuisinart CFO 3SS Electric Fondue Maker
  7. Add the nutmeg
  8. Serve with crusty bread (if you make tasty homemade bread in a breadmaker such as the Cuisinart CBK 100 Programmable Breadmaker, set it to "dark curst"
This recipe is rather rich and is best serve as a starter. So if you want to follow it up with a meat fondue you will have to get a second pot for your Cuisinart CFO 3SS Electric Fondue Maker.

A very good idea though, is to serve this fondue as a starter and follow it with another course that is not a fondue. This gives you a nice variation on the traditional.
